First in the SSM Industry... 400-Pyeong Scale Grocery Specialty Store
Lotte Mart Transplants Grand Grocery Concept Supermarket
Lotte Super announced on the 21st that it will renew and launch 'Lotte Premium Food Market Dogok Branch' as 'Grang Grocery Dogok Branch'.
Grang Grocery is a concept exclusive to Lotte Mart and Super, meaning a grocery specialty market that solves consumers' food concerns. This Grang Grocery Dogok Branch is Lotte Super's first Grang Grocery store, a 400-pyeong (approx. 1,322 sqm) specialty grocery store, the first of its kind in the corporate supermarket (SSM) industry. As a specialty grocery store, the number of grocery items handled in the store reaches 5,000, the highest among Lotte Super stores. This is about 30% more than the number of grocery items handled in a typical Lotte Super store.
The reason Lotte Super applied the Grang Grocery store concept is due to the 'change in customers' consumption patterns.' As the high inflation trend continues, consumers are increasingly visiting nearby grocery stores to purchase only the quantities they need at the moment. Accordingly, Lotte Super aims to enhance its competitiveness by transplanting the successful Grang Grocery concept from Lotte Mart into its supermarkets. In fact, the first Grang Grocery large mart store, 'Grang Grocery Eunpyeong Branch,' has seen sales increase by about 10% compared to the previous year this year.
Lotte Super Grang Grocery Dogok Branch has doubled the display area for deli foods compared to before. The number of deli products has increased by about 30% to operate a total of around 200 items. The deli island consists of the freshly prepared food corner 'Yorihada Kitchen,' featuring kimbap, sushi, chicken, etc.; the small-portion & value-for-money meal concept 'Yorihada World Buffet'; and the premium side dish corner 'Dosigotgan.'
With this renewal, Lotte Super Grang Grocery Dogok Branch introduces the ready meal specialty corner 'Meal Solution,' the street food collection 'K Street Food,' and the French direct-sourcing frozen food section 'Picard Zone.' The Daily Meal Solution has more than doubled its selection of frozen convenience foods such as frozen meal kits and frozen snacks, and is introducing for the first time four types of diet-friendly konjac kimbap, about 20 branded frozen lunch boxes, and five types of frozen vegetables.
Kang Sung-hyun, CEO of Lotte Mart & Super, said, "Grang Grocery Dogok Branch is a store that integrates the Grang Grocery format, which ultimately solves daily food concerns, into a corporate supermarket, the core of nearby distribution channels," adding, "Through the opening of this Grang Grocery Dogok Branch, we will provide differentiated supermarket services to customers and take a step closer to becoming the 'Number One Grocery Market.'"
