A heartbreaking story has been shared about an elderly man in his 80s who came looking for chestnut bread, which his sick wife loved, after she was unable to eat.

On the 18th, an anonymous post titled “The elderly gentleman who asked me to make chestnut bread” was published on a self-employed community forum. The author, Mr. A, began by saying, “I am a shop owner who just finished my probation period a little over three months after opening. I run the bakery, pastry, and coffee all by myself.” Mr. A explained, “Shortly after opening, I noticed an elderly man who looked to be in his 80s passing by the store every day. He never came inside but seemed to be checking if the bread was out. Since it was early days after opening, I couldn’t pay close attention to everyone, but somehow, he was someone who caught my heart.”

According to Mr. A, the elderly man only entered the store after about ten days. The man cautiously asked, “I have a favor to ask. My wife is sick and can’t eat. She loves chestnut bread so much, and I want to feed her at least that. But there’s nowhere to buy it. Could you possibly make some chestnut bread for me?” Upon hearing this, Mr. A said, “My eyes welled up after hearing his story,” and added, “Although I didn’t sell chestnut bread, I promised to try making it deliciously and started practicing.”

Mr. A continued, “After two days, the elderly man came and bought the chestnut bread. I really wanted to just give it to him, but he paid for it.” He added, “A week later, the man came back again. He said thank you and that his wife had eaten it well, and I burst into tears. That’s when I learned she had passed away and gone to heaven.” He said, “Since it was shortly after opening and a recent event, it will remain in my memory for a long time. It was a painful day that reminded me of my mother who passed away from cancer.”

Netizens who read the post responded with comments such as, “My heart aches so much,” “Thinking about the grandfather who went around stores just to feed his wife brings tears to my eyes,” “Thank you to the owner for making chestnut bread that you don’t even sell. You will be blessed,” “I’m sure the grandmother enjoyed the chestnut bread very much,” “I think I’ll remember this every time I eat chestnut bread,” “My grandmother loved chestnut bread too,” “This is what love is,” and “The store will definitely be a huge success.”
