Sister Sophia Draws Attention by Passing 3 Months Early

A 17-year-old Korean American sibling duo who took the bar exam in California, USA, earned the title of youngest passers.

On the 19th (local time), The New York Times (NYT) highlighted the achievement of Sophia Park, who passed the California bar exam held last July as the youngest candidate. Sophia is the younger sister of Prosecutor Peter Park, who passed the California bar exam last year at the age of 17 years and 11 months. Sophia broke her brother's record by passing the exam on the 8th of this month at the age of 17 years and 8 months.

Tim Ward, the District Attorney of Tulare County where Prosecutor Peter was appointed, congratulated, saying, "Sophia's remarkable achievement speaks volumes on its own, and as a family in the office, we couldn't be prouder."

On the 9th, Peter posted a video on his YouTube channel showing his younger sister checking her exam results. In the video, upon confirming her passing, Sophia smiled broadly and said, "I am very happy and excited." The siblings' father also expressed his joy, saying "Hallelujah."

The NYT explained, "The California bar exam is considered the most difficult exam in the United States," adding, "In the July exam, 8,291 candidates took the test, and 54% passed."

Previously, Peter registered at Northwestern California University at the age of 13, balancing law studies and high school simultaneously. This was possible thanks to passing the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), which allows applying to law school without a high school diploma. He also shared this story on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' last September. Similarly, Sophia took the law school courses online from the age of 13, completing high school, college, and law school courses in about four years.

In an interview with the NYT, Sophia recalled, "Seeing my older brother start law school at an early age made it natural for me to start law school young as well," adding, "I knew what I wanted to do, and there was a shortcut." She also expressed her ambition, saying, "As a prosecutor, I will strive to realize justice and represent the voices of victims." Sophia is expected to be appointed as a prosecutor and work alongside her brother when she turns 18 in March next year.
