New Depression Information Category Established
"Regular Submission of Improvement Plan Materials to Be Received"
The Korea Communications Standards Commission announced on the 20th that DC Inside's 'Depression Gallery' has revamped its bulletin board usage by introducing 'adult verification' to protect minors.
Previously, on the 14th of last month, the Communications Review Subcommittee resolved to issue a 'warning to the information and communication service provider' regarding the Depression Gallery and urged the implementation of child and youth protection measures. Despite the Commission's earlier recommendation to strengthen self-regulation, DC Inside inadequately enforced child and youth protection measures, resulting in the site being exploited as a gateway for sexual crimes targeting minors.
Following the Commission's warning resolution, DC Inside, as the information and communication service provider, has ▲restricted minors from posting and commenting through adult verification and ▲established new categories for depression information and recovery stories.
The Commission stated, "With this measure, we expect the bulletin board to be operated in a way that prevents crimes against minors in advance and aligns with the operational purpose of overcoming depression," adding, "We will continue to regularly receive and review key operational performance data regarding improvements to the Depression Gallery."
