On the 20th, Incheon City disclosed the names of 642 high-amount defaulters of local taxes and local administrative sanctions and charges on the city’s website and city bulletin.
The disclosure targets include 532 individuals and 110 corporations with arrears of 10 million KRW or more for over one year from the date of occurrence. The total amount of arrears is 19.4 billion KRW for individuals and 5.2 billion KRW for corporations, totaling 24.6 billion KRW.
The corporation with the largest local tax arrears is a real estate sales company in Seo-gu, which has accumulated 864 million KRW in unpaid property tax.
Among individual defaulters, Mr. A residing in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, has the highest arrears amounting to 745 million KRW for local income tax and resident tax. Regarding local administrative sanctions and charges, Mr. B, a resident of Namdong-gu, has defaulted on 325 million KRW in enforcement fines under the Building Act.
Along with this disclosure, the city plans to strengthen collection measures in cooperation with the Korea Customs Service by seizing high-value portable items on-site when defaulters enter the country or by withholding customs clearance of imported goods purchased through overseas direct purchase. Additionally, wheel lock measures and public auction disposition will be actively implemented for defaulters owing 1 million KRW or more.
Local taxes include acquisition tax, property tax, local income tax, and other taxes imposed by local governments. Local administrative sanctions and charges include penalties such as fines, enforcement charges, compensation fees for illegal acts, and levies related to specific public interest projects.
An official from Incheon City stated, "We will establish a culture of sincere tax payment through the disclosure of names of high-amount and habitual defaulters and strong collection measures," adding, "We will respond strongly to intentional concealment of assets and tax evasion with measures such as seizure and travel bans."
