Yangsan-si, Awarded 'Excellent' in This Year's Intensive Safety Inspection City and County Evaluation

Yangsan City in Gyeongnam was selected as an ‘Excellent’ local government in Gyeongnam Province in the ‘Korea Safety Transformation 2024 Intensive Safety Inspection’ conducted from April 22 to June 21.

This marks the third consecutive year achieving excellence, following ‘Excellent’ in 2022 and ‘Best’ in 2023.

The ‘Korea Safety Transformation Intensive Safety Inspection’ (formerly the National Safety Diagnosis) is a disaster prevention activity conducted annually since 2015. It involves joint inspections by public officials, private experts, and citizens to proactively identify and eliminate risk factors in facilities vulnerable to disasters or safety accidents, thereby raising public safety awareness.

This year, Yangsan City inspected 105 aging and high-risk facilities, including child-use facilities and transportation facilities within the city. The city ensured the effectiveness of the inspections by increasing the participation of the head of the institution in on-site inspections and the involvement of private experts. Efforts were also made to spread a safety culture through campaigns during the ‘Safety Inspection Day’ and festivals.

The city plans to continuously identify facilities requiring intensive safety inspections to ensure there are no safety gaps for citizens and to select inspection target facilities for the next year. It also plans to significantly expand the use of advanced scientific technology equipment such as drones to enhance both the substance and effectiveness of inspections compared to this year.

Mayor Na Dong-yeon said, “The selection as an excellent institution in this intensive safety inspection is the result of cooperation and efforts by Yangsan citizens, related organizations, groups, and associations to create a safe urban environment.” He added, “Even after the inspections, we will thoroughly repair and reinforce the pointed-out issues so that Yangsan City can be a place where citizens can live with peace of mind.”
