Nam-gu, Gwangju City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 20th that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection of construction and demolition sites within the district until the 29th to prevent various accidents occurring at construction sites during the winter season. The inspection targets include six sites where construction work is ongoing and one site where demolition work is being carried out.

The district plans to form separate inspection teams to review preparedness measures. For construction sites, the focus will be on areas where temporary structures may collapse or deform due to heavy snowfall, measures to prevent slipping in icy sections, and countermeasures for locations at risk of soil collapse and falling debris. Additionally, the condition of slopes, equipment, materials, and other management aspects will be inspected. For demolition sites, the inspection will cover compliance with work procedures according to guidelines, presence of supervisors on site, structural safety, and waste disposal processes.

The district will issue correction orders for any violations found during the on-site inspections and will take administrative actions according to relevant laws if improvements are not made.

A Nam-gu official emphasized, “During winter, weather conditions such as cold waves and heavy snowfall frequently change, increasing the likelihood of safety accidents at construction sites. We will conduct thorough inspections of construction sites to ensure the safety of residents and construction workers.”
