Nonsan City, South Chungcheong Province, announced on the 20th that Mayor Baek Seonghyeon met with Lee Byeongho, President of Korea Rural Community Corporation, on the 19th to request cooperation for the selection of new projects by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for next year and to explain the feasibility of the projects.

Mayor Baek stated, "Nonsan City has experienced significant flooding this year due to record-breaking heavy rainfall, following last year's similar events," and emphasized, "The role of agricultural infrastructure is crucial to prepare for such damages."

He continued, "The current facilities were designed based on outdated standards, resulting in insufficient drainage capacity and severe aging issues," and added, "This does not align with the current situation of a rapid increase in horticultural farms and frequent sudden and heavy rainfall, thereby exacerbating the damages."

He further stressed, "It is difficult to prevent flood damages caused by climate change through only emergency restoration work," and said, "We must fundamentally improve drainage facilities to minimize recurring damages and create a stable environment for farmers to engage in agriculture."

The city requested the inclusion of the 'Seongdong District Rice Field Water Supply System Establishment Project' to improve drainage and ensure a stable supply of agricultural water, as the Ahwangdeok District in Bujeok-myeon, Wonbong District in Seongdong-myeon, Bongdong District in Yeonmu-eup, and Yahwa District in Chaewoon-myeon have suffered flood damages for two consecutive years since last year.

Mayor Baek also requested active cooperation from the Korea Rural Community Corporation to revitalize tourism around Tapjeongho Lake.

The city is currently promoting the development of the Tapjeongho Resort project worth 340 billion KRW, along with water leisure and rest facilities, and the Tapjeongho Mulbit Garden project in the Tapjeongho area.

Recently, the 'Tapjeongho Central Region Premium Tourist Destination Development Project' was selected in the '2nd Phase, 2nd Term Regional Balanced Development Project Competition' by Chungcheongnam-do, and a kids park facility, a family-friendly experiential play space, is scheduled to be established.

Lee Byeongho, President of Korea Rural Community Corporation, said, "I can feel the mayor's passion as he is actively working on site to solve Nonsan's difficulties and prepare for the future," and added, "We will actively cooperate to ensure that today's discussions are reflected as much as possible in next year's projects."

Mayor Baek Seonghyeon said, "It is the role and responsibility of the mayor to resolve the difficulties faced by citizens and to prepare for the future," and added, "I will do my best to establish and implement concrete strategies to create a brighter tomorrow for Nonsan."
