The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office (Director Kim Young-woo) announced on the 20th that on the 19th, a meeting to prevent chemical accidents was held at Sono Calm Yeosu, attended by environmental team leaders from 26 companies handling hazardous chemicals in the Gwangyang Bay area.


The meeting focused on measures against the increasing number of chemical accidents each year and shared cases that occurred within the jurisdiction to emphasize accident prevention. Additionally, the upcoming amendments to the Chemical Substances Control Act scheduled for next year were shared, and chemical safety management plans for each company were also discussed.


Choi Woo-jin, head of the Yeosu Chemical Disaster Joint Prevention Center at the Yeongsan River Basin Office, stated at the meeting, “A significant portion of the main causes of chemical accidents are identified as non-compliance with safety standards and facility defects,” and urged, “Please thoroughly maintain facility management during normal operations or maintenance.”
