On the 20th, foreign media outlets including ESPN reported that Chairwoman Michele Kang has pledged to donate $30 million to the U.S. Soccer Federation over the next five years.

Michelle Kang, a Korean-American entrepreneur born and raised in Korea, is the daughter of former lawmaker Yoon Ja Lee, who served as a member of the 11th and 13th National Assembly and contributed to the advancement of women's rights. According to the report, the donated funds will be used over the next five years to enhance the competitiveness of women's soccer, develop player professionalism, and support programs for female coaches and referees. The U.S. Soccer Federation described it as "the largest donation ever made to the Federation’s women’s and youth girls’ programs and the highest amount donated by a woman to the U.S. Soccer Federation."


They also introduced Michele Kang as "a pioneering business leader and investor dedicated to advancing women's sports worldwide." Cindy Parlow Cone, President of the U.S. Soccer Federation, called the donation "a groundbreaking change for women's soccer." U.S. media expressed expectations that "this donation will serve as an important stepping stone for the resurgence of women's soccer following disappointing results at the 2023 Women's World Cup."


Chairwoman Kang stated, "Women's sports have long been undervalued and overlooked," adding, "I want to raise the standards of women's soccer both on and off the field and provide resources that allow female athletes to reach their full potential." She further said, "I hope this investment will act as 'seed money' to encourage other donors to join."


Meanwhile, Kang currently owns the Washington Spirit (USA), Olympique Lyonnais F?minin (France), and London City Lionesses (UK) clubs. She is a prominent figure continuously striving for the development and growth of women's soccer. Born and raised in Korea, Korean-American entrepreneur Michele Kang is the daughter of former lawmaker Yoon Ja Lee, who contributed to advancing women's rights as a member of the 11th and 13th National Assembly. Kang studied at Sogang University before going abroad in 1981. She majored in economics at the University of Chicago and earned a master's degree from Yale School of Management. She founded and operates Cognosante, a company in the healthcare information technology sector.
