Coupang Invests 20 Billion Won to Establish Sub-Hub in Jincheon... Expanding 'Kusegwon' in Chungcheong Region

Total Floor Area of Approximately 5,500 Pyeong
Over 400 Direct Hires Planned... Priority Employment for Local Residents

Coupang Logistics Service (CLS) is establishing a sub-hub in Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do to expand the Rocket Delivery coverage area in the Chungcheong region and will directly employ over 400 people. The sub-hub is an intermediate logistics facility that sends products from the logistics center to the delivery camp, and the Jincheon sub-hub is expected to serve as a foundation for next-day Rocket Delivery throughout the Chungcheong region.

Coupang’s delivery subsidiary CLS announced on the 20th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chungcheongbuk-do and Jincheon-gun to build the Coupang Jincheon Sub-Hub in the Eunam-ri area of Chopyeong-myeon, Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. The signing ceremony held at the Jincheon County Office’s small conference room was attended by Hong Yong-jun, CEO of CLS, Song Ki-seop, Jincheon County Governor, and Hwang Hyun-gu, Special Political Advisor to Chungcheongbuk-do.

The Jincheon sub-hub will operate on a total floor area of approximately 5,500 pyeong with an investment of about 20 billion KRW and plans to directly employ more than 400 people. Scheduled to begin operations in January next year, this facility is expected to become one of the key sites for next-day Rocket Delivery across the Chungcheong region. CLS explained that by creating around 400 new jobs in Chopyeong-myeon, where the sub-hub will be located, it will also contribute to the local economy.

An increase in youth employment is also anticipated. For example, about 60% of the employees in their 20s and 30s at Coupang’s Geumwang Logistics Center in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, are young workers.

CEO Hong Yong-jun emphasized, "Coupang will prioritize hiring Jincheon residents to provide stable jobs for local people," adding, "We will especially strive to help Jincheon become a place where young people can settle and live."

Jincheon County Governor Song Ki-seop said, "We are pleased to sign the investment agreement with CLS," and added, "We expect the local economy to be revitalized through large-scale employment, and the expansion of Rocket Delivery will greatly improve the convenience of life for county residents."

Special Political Advisor Hwang Hyun-gu stated, "CLS’s investment in this sub-hub will not only create employment for more than 400 people but also reaffirm Chungcheongbuk-do’s status as a logistics hub."

This investment is part of Coupang’s logistics investment plan announced earlier this year. Coupang revealed plans to invest about 30 trillion KRW by 2026 to make Rocket Delivery available nationwide. Including the Jincheon sub-hub, additional logistics infrastructure will be established in nine regions across the country, including Daejeon, Gwangju, and Gyeongbuk’s Gimcheon, Chilgok, and Ulsan, with plans to directly employ more than 10,000 people.
