Gwangju Buk-gu, 'Love Kimchi Making' Sharing Event Until the 10th of Next Month

Gwangju City Buk-gu is promoting the ‘Love Kimchi Making’ sharing event again this year to convey warm hearts to neighbors in need of care.

According to the district on the 20th, from that day until December 10th, the event will be held with the participation of related organizations and groups such as the 27-dong Administrative Welfare Centers, the Community Social Security Council, and the Volunteer Center.

The 27-dong Administrative Welfare Centers are preparing about 13,000 heads of kimchi cabbage, and when combined with the quantities planned by the Buk-gu Community Social Security Council, Buk-gu Volunteer Center, Barugesalgi Movement Buk-gu Council, and the Disabled Welfare Association, the scale of kimchi making is expected to increase further. In addition, as news of the kimchi sharing event spreads, sponsorship inquiries from private companies and organizations are also increasing, so the scale is expected to grow even larger.

The beneficiaries are neighbors in need of care and social welfare facilities. Volunteers will personally deliver the carefully made kimchi to those in need, check on their well-being, listen to any difficulties, and connect them to welfare services if necessary.

Moon In, the head of Buk-gu Office, said, “I would like to express my gratitude to the volunteers who have been carrying out the kimchi making event every winter for neighbors in need around us,” and added, “I hope the kimchi sharing event supports a warm winter for neighbors in need of care and raises the temperature of sharing in the local community so that this winter will be full of warmth and happiness.”

Meanwhile, Buk-gu’s kimchi sharing event was integrated and promoted in 2018 to address the difficulties low-income families faced due to the soaring price of cabbage, and it has become a place for resident harmony and communication every year.
