Four Chungnam Medical Centers Receive Suspensions and Other Penalties Due to Poor Management

Four Chungnam Medical Centers Receive Suspensions and Other Penalties Due to Poor Management

It was revealed in a comprehensive audit that four regional medical centers in Chungnam received suspension of business due to lax management.

According to the Chungnam Provincial Audit Committee on the 19th, as a result of an audit conducted from August 26 to September 6 on Cheonan, Gongju, Seosan, and Hongseong Medical Centers, a total of 52 inappropriate acts were detected and corrective actions were taken.

Cheonan Medical Center used lung cancer screening equipment even though the quality control inspection for special medical equipment by the Korea Medical Device Evaluation Institute had not been completed in August 2021, resulting in a 45-day business suspension and a loss of about 10 million won.

Cheonan Medical Center filed a lawsuit against the Korea Medical Device Evaluation Institute for damages due to the delay in issuing the inspection certificate for special medical equipment, but lost the case and wasted 2.2 million won in litigation costs.

Gongju Medical Center provides a monthly housing stability allowance of 500,000 won to doctors. Since April 2022, if the amount exceeds 500,000 won, the excess must be borne by the user of the official residence. However, it was found that the center allocated an annual budget of 300 million won under the pretext of official residence deposits, supporting excess amounts ranging from 50,000 to 24.95 million won.

Seosan Medical Center purchased 55 pieces of medical equipment from July 2021 to June 2024. Although applying a cost discount according to payment terms would have saved the budget, this was not specified in the purchase bid announcement. As a result, the center missed an opportunity to save about 146 million won in the budget.

Hongseong Medical Center had 387 cases of unpaid medical bills from July 2021 to June 2024, but only encouraged payment through phone calls and text messages, neglecting proper management of unpaid bills and thus received a warning.
