Through the agreement held on the 18th, various cooperative projects for the development of Miryang’s performing arts will be promoted, including △support for the production of a documentary on the Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe △joint projects and joint marketing cooperation for performances of the Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe at the Busan and Gyeongnam Arts Centers △establishment of a close cooperative system to revitalize culture and arts in Miryang City.

In May, Miryang City was selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s ‘2024 Regional Representative Arts Group Development Support Project’ competition, and in August, it launched the ‘Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe’ by selecting 97 members including local artists performing traditional sounds, dance, and instruments, young artists from Yeongnam engaged in acting, singing, and dancing, and the Arirang Youth Group composed of high school students and younger youth.

The city plans to collaborate with KNN to widely promote the Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe’s diverse performances and ‘Yeongdeunghalmae Arirang,’ which reinterprets local traditional games such as seasonal customs, Yongho play, and Baekjung play.

Mayor An Byeong-gu said, “Miryang has various cultural heritages such as the intangible cultural assets Gamnae Gejul Danggigi and Miryang Beopheungsangwon Nori, as well as Yeongnamnu Pavilion, Yerim Seowon Confucian Academy, and Wolyeondae Pavilion, in addition to the Miryang Arirang, which is designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is also home to many representative local festivals such as the Miryang Arirang Grand Festival and Miryang Cultural Heritage Night Tour.” He added, “Taking this business agreement as an opportunity, we will raise the level of Miryang’s culture and arts to a higher level and promote it more widely to develop it into a truly distinguished cultural city.”
