9 Construction Sites Abandoned for Over 10 Years
A ordinance aimed at renovating 'construction-halted' buildings in Jeonnam Province, which may impair urban aesthetics and cause various safety issues such as crime, is expected to be enacted.
The Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 19th that the 'Jeollanam-do Construction-Halted Long-Term Abandoned Building Renovation Support Ordinance,' sponsored by Assemblyman Na Gwang-guk (Democratic Party of Korea, Muan 2), has passed the review of the Safety, Construction, and Firefighting Committee.
This ordinance includes provisions for conducting a status survey to establish a renovation plan for construction-halted buildings in the province, budget support necessary for safety management, and the formation of an advisory group to facilitate the smooth promotion of renovation projects.
Construction-halted buildings refer mainly to those where construction was stopped for more than two years after the commencement report due to reasons such as lack of funds, bankruptcy, or disputes. Currently, there are 11 such sites in 8 cities and counties within the province.
Assemblyman Na said, “Among the 11 sites, 9 are long-term abandoned buildings with a halt period exceeding 10 years. These not only spoil the aesthetics but also pose a significant threat to the safety of the residents.” He added, “Through the enactment of this ordinance, I hope urgent safety measures for construction-halted buildings and renovation projects tailored to the circumstances of Jeonnam Province will be promoted.”
The ordinance is scheduled to be finally approved at the 3rd plenary session of the 386th Jeonnam Provincial Council on the 5th of next month.
