Hanam City, Child Abuse Prevention Day Ceremony... Professor Lee Soo-jung's Special Lecture Receives Positive Response

Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 19th that it held the '2024 Child Abuse Prevention Day Ceremony' on the 18th in observance of World Child Abuse Prevention Day (November 19).

Hosted by Hanam City and organized by the Hanam Child Protection Agency (Director Lee Young-hwa), the event was held at the multipurpose hall of the Hanam Youth Training Center. About 250 participants, including Mayor Lee Hyun-jae, Director Lee Young-hwa, officials from the Hanam Police Station, Gwangju Hanam Office of Education, and related organizations, as well as citizens, attended the event.


At the event, Professor Lee Soo-jung from the Department of Criminal Psychology at Kyonggi University gave a lecture titled "Discipline Without Becoming Violence," emphasizing the clear distinction between discipline and abuse, which received great response from parents struggling with child-rearing.


In addition, Hanam City collaborated with the Child Guardians Group to conduct a child abuse prevention campaign using a photo booth, promoted Child Rights Week with local children's centers and Dahamkke Care Centers, and worked with the community to create a "Happy Hanam for Children."


Mayor Lee Hyun-jae said, "Through this event, Hanam City aimed to create an opportunity to understand and communicate with children from their perspective by hosting a special lecture by a notable figure to promote 'positive parenting.' We will continue to work with the community to establish a 'Child Abuse Zero Hanam City' where all children can grow up safely and happily."


Meanwhile, Hanam City is making various efforts to strengthen the child protection system for child abuse prevention and child rights promotion, including ▲ operating the Child Abuse Response Information Coordination Council (Hanam City, Hanam Police Station, Gwangju Hanam Office of Education, Hanam Child Protection Agency) ▲ opening the Hanam Child Protection Agency ▲ maintaining a 24-hour dedicated child abuse public official response system ▲ identifying and investigating children in crisis ▲ conducting joint inspections with related organizations ▲ designating dedicated medical institutions for child abuse cases.
