'Meeting of the People and the Army Through Art' Theme
Artist Kim Hyung-woo, Sculpture 'Victory'... Grand Prize Honor
The "14th Republic of Korea Patriotic Art Exhibition" has successfully opened at Okcheongol Art Museum in Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk.
According to Sunchang-gun on the 20th, this exhibition is an art contest hosted by the Army Headquarters and organized by the Patriotic Art Exhibition Organizing Committee. It started with an opening ceremony on the 19th and will run until the 1st of next month. The opening ceremony was graced by key figures including Choi Young-il, the governor of Sunchang-gun, Son Jong-seok, chairman of the Sunchang-gun Council, and Kim Nam-ju, commander of the 103rd Brigade.

The theme of this art exhibition is "The Meeting of the People and the Army through Art." Selected through first and second rounds of judging in six categories?painting, calligraphy, sculpture, literati painting & calligraphy, photography, and design?a total of 1,027 works were submitted, including 460 pieces by soldiers and 567 by civilians.
The grand prize was awarded to sculptor Kim Hyung-woo for his work "Victory." This piece was praised as a masterpiece that faithfully embodies the themes of patriotism and security while excellently expressing the characteristics of sculpture such as form and spatial sense.
The category excellence awards went to: ▲ Painting - Sergeant Kwak Byung-joo for "I Carve Every Day" ▲ Calligraphy - artist Seong Du-hyun for "In the Name of the Fatherland" ▲ Calligraphy - artist Kim Hong-rak for "Handwriting of Patriot Ahn Jung-geun."
Meanwhile, this exhibition started on September 25th at the War Memorial in Yongsan, Seoul, and traveled through the National Chuncheon Museum, Paju Odusan Observatory, and Busan UN Peace Memorial Hall before arriving at Okcheongol Art Museum in Sunchang. It will conclude with a final exhibition at Gyeryongdae, marking the grand finale.
Choi Young-il, governor of Sunchang-gun, said, "I hope this Patriotic Art Exhibition will serve as an opportunity for the military and civilians to unite," adding, "I encourage many residents to visit and feel the noble spirit of our country's patriotic heroes."
