High Praise for the Spread of Reusable Containers at Events and Festivals
On the 19th, Anseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it was selected as the best local government in the 'Clean Gyeonggi Initiative' evaluation conducted by Gyeonggi Province.
This evaluation divides the 31 cities and counties in the province into three groups (A, B, and C) and consists of a quantitative assessment of 14 indicators such as reduction of household waste generation and improvement of recycling rates, as well as a qualitative evaluation of special policies and best practices for reducing household waste.

Anseong City, which belongs to Group C, achieved excellent results in most evaluation categories, including ▲ reduction of waste generation and improvement of recycling rates ▲ strengthening crackdowns and publicity to prevent illegal activities ▲ establishment of separated collection infrastructure and rapid processing systems ▲ assigning responsibilities and conducting cleanup activities to expand resident participation.
With this selection, the city secured a prize fund of 150 million KRW. The prize fund is a financial incentive provided by the government based on the achievements made by the responsible staff.
In particular, this year the city received high praise for expanding the use of reusable containers not only in public institutions but also at events, festivals, meetings, delivery restaurants, and funeral homes to reduce single-use products. Other notable new projects include establishing a safe collection system for lithium battery recycling, operating the Anseong Environmental Education Center, running the Our Village Environmental Leaders program, and selecting and rewarding excellent recycling separation facilities.
A city official stated, "Based on this year’s award experience, we will continue to discover and promote citizen participation projects to increase recycling rates," and added, "We also ask for the active participation of citizens to establish a proper household waste disposal culture going forward."
