Dongguk CM announced on the 19th that it has obtained Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) certification for its 'Re-Born Green Color Steel Sheet' from UL Solutions, a U.S. safety standards certification body.
ECV certification is a mark granted through a third-party verification program that proves the eco-friendliness of products, including the use rate of recycled and reused materials and the content of harmful substances. It is classified as a rigorous certification involving process audits on recycled material content and verification by professional engineers.
With this certification, Dongguk CM is evaluated to have increased the reliability of the eco-friendliness of its Re-Born Green Color Steel Sheet. The Re-Born Green Color Steel Sheet is a product that combines hot-rolled steel sheets manufactured by electric furnace with recycled plastic paint. It is a world-first technology jointly developed by Dongguk CM and Samhwa Paint.
After completing the technology development in November last year, Dongguk CM and Samhwa Paint doubled the content of recycled plastic paint over the course of one year. This means that the recyclability has improved from the effect of recycling 100 PET bottles of 500 ml per ton to the effect of recycling 200 bottles.
The application range has also expanded from existing home appliances to construction use. Architectural exterior materials are directly exposed to the climate and are likely to be impacted, so physical property control is essential. Through research, Dongguk CM has met all the physical property requirements for the Re-Born Green Color Steel Sheet for construction use.
Dongguk CM expects that with the verification of the eco-friendliness of its color steel sheet products through this certification, it will be able to enhance its competitiveness in export markets amid changes in the steel trade environment such as the spread of protectionism. Dongguk CM is currently negotiating the application of the Re-Born Green Color Steel Sheet to LG Electronics' home appliances.
Nam Don-woo, head of Dongguk CM’s research institute, said, "To proactively respond to the demand for carbon emission reduction products, we are striving to improve eco-friendliness by using electric furnace materials or biodegradable films," adding, "We will continue efforts to enhance the competitiveness of color steel sheet products according to the DK Color Vision 2030."
