Gangdong-gu Emerges as a 'Hot Place' with Cheonho Bicycle Street Riding Challenge

3700 Participants in 16-Day Event

Seoul Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 19th that the '2024 Cheonho Bicycle Street Riding Challenge,' held for 16 days until the 10th of this month, successfully concluded with the participation of about 3,700 bicycle enthusiasts and residents.

The '2024 Cheonho Bicycle Street Riding Challenge' was an event operated for the first time this year by Gangdong-gu from the 26th of last month to the 10th of this month along Cheonho Bicycle Street and the Han River area in Gangdong-gu. During the event period, participants who completed the designated courses (riding course, outing course) or posted certification of using event stores on social networking services (SNS) were given goods as rewards.

The challenge courses started from Cheonho Bicycle Street and were designed to enjoy the charm of the Han River. There were two courses: the ‘Riding Course’ (30 km) for bicycle enthusiasts and the ‘Outing Course’ (1.5 km) for general visitors and residents.

The ‘Riding Course’ attracted over 2,500 participants in just two days of pre-registration, leading to an early closure due to high demand. The challenge’s enthusiasm was further fueled by the participation of the domestic cycling club ‘Maloya Able Team,’ which has about 400 members, and bicycle influencers such as ‘Sportsbong’ and ‘Hyangrider.’

Meanwhile, the ‘Outing Course’ also brought vitality to the Cheonho Bicycle Street commercial district, with many families, couples, and friends, including bicycle riders, visiting and leaving certification of their visits.

District Mayor Lee Soo-hee said, "As a sacred place for bicycle enthusiasts, the riding challenge held for the first time this year at Cheonho Bicycle Street concluded successfully with great interest from many people. We are planning to hold the event again next year to promote the charm of the Han River area in Gangdong-gu and revitalize the local commercial district, so please look forward to it."
