Likely to Visit Ancestral Graves of CJ, Shinsegae, and Others

Samsung, Shinsegae, CJ, Hansol, and other Samsung-affiliated groups will visit the family burial site near Hoam Museum of Art in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on the 19th to hold a memorial service marking the 37th anniversary of the passing of Samsung founder Lee Byung-chul.

According to business circles on the day, representatives from each group are expected to attend the memorial service to reflect on the founder's wishes. From Samsung, it is highly likely that Lee Jae-yong, Samsung Electronics Chairman and grandson of Hoam, along with Hong Ra-hee, former director of the Leeum Museum of Art, Lee Boo-jin, President of Hotel Shilla, and Lee Seo-hyun, President of Samsung C&T, will attend. Last year, Lee Jae-yong was unable to attend the memorial service due to a scheduling conflict with the first trial verdict hearing on 'unfair merger and accounting fraud.' Samsung executives are expected not to attend this year's memorial service, similar to last year.

Lee Jae-hyun, eldest grandson of Hoam and Chairman of CJ Group, is also scheduled to visit the family burial site in Yongin on the morning of the same day. It is known that he will hold a separate memorial rite for Hoam in Seoul, as in previous years. In the afternoon, Cho Dong-gil, Hoam's maternal grandson and Chairman of Hansol Group, along with executives from Shinsegae Group, will visit the burial site to pay their respects.

The Samsung-affiliated groups used to hold the Hoam memorial service together, but since 2012, when an inheritance dispute arose between brothers Lee Maeng-hee, former CJ Chairman, and Lee Kun-hee, former Samsung Chairman, they have held separate events at different times on the same day. Founder Lee Byung-chul established 'Samsung Sanghoe' in 1938, starting with the export of fruits and dried seafood, which became the foundation of Samsung C&T. The Cheil Jedang business he started in 1953 with the sugar business is the origin of CJ Group.
