U.S. President Joe Biden has reportedly authorized Ukraine to strike Russian mainland with long-range missiles supplied by the United States in response to North Korea's deployment of troops to Russia, prompting Russia to protest on the 18th (local time) as "intervention in the conflict."
According to major foreign media and Yonhap News Agency on the day, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, held a briefing and targeted President Biden, saying, "The United States is pouring fuel on the fire of the conflict and trying to further escalate tensions," adding, "It is clear that the outgoing U.S. administration is taking measures to continue provocations that pour fuel on the fire and further expand tensions."
He further stated that such U.S. actions constitute 'intervention in the conflict' and signify that the war is entering a qualitatively new phase.
Earlier, the U.S. New York Times (NYT) reported the previous day that President Biden approved Ukraine to strike Russian mainland with the U.S.-made long-range surface-to-surface missile ATACMS, which has a range of about 300 km.
