Swearing During Speech at G20 Related Event
Last Year's 'X' Account Hacking Incident
Brazil's First Lady uttered a curse word directed at Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, during a public event ahead of the opening of the major Group of Twenty (G20) summit held in her country.
According to Brazilian local media G1 on the 17th (local time), First Lady Hozanjela Da Silva shouted, during a G20-related event held the previous day in Rio de Janeiro, "It must be Elon Musk" when a loud noise came from somewhere while she was advocating the need for social media regulation. She then exclaimed, "I am not afraid of you. F*** you, Elon Musk." In the process, she uttered an English curse word starting with 'F'.
A video capturing this moment quickly spread through X (formerly Twitter), operated by CEO Musk, and upon seeing it, Musk commented, "They will lose the next election," accompanied by a 'face with tears of joy' emoji. Brazil's next presidential election is in 2026.
The conflict between First Lady Hozanjela and CEO Musk began last year when the First Lady's X account was hacked. The First Lady, a sociologist with 1.2 million followers, had her account flooded with obscene photos and insulting posts due to a hack by a teenage boy. In response, First Lady Hozanjela expressed her intention to sue X and CEO Musk, holding them responsible, but Musk countered, saying, "I don't see how it is our responsibility if someone figured out the password."
Brazil also experienced conflicts with CEO Musk over X this year. In August, Brazil's Supreme Court suspended X's service nationwide for about 40 days because X disobeyed an order to block accounts spreading false news. At that time, President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva welcomed the Supreme Court's order as a legitimate measure to prevent the spread of misinformation. Additionally, CEO Musk has been publicly supportive of Jair Bolsonaro, a political rival of President Lula.
While criticism arose that First Lady Hozanjela's use of profanity at the event was inappropriate for an official public appearance, her husband, President Lula, reportedly said at another event, "We do not need to curse anyone," according to G1. The First Lady's side did not respond to requests for comments from major foreign media. President Lula remarried First Lady Hozanjela in May 2022 after the passing of his two previous wives.
