This contest is a matching project between Gyeonggi Province and its cities and counties, aimed at discovering outstanding programs in lifelong education support projects for borderline intellectual disabilities (IQ 71?84) and disabilities throughout the year. Winners receive the Governor’s Award and are given the opportunity to present their excellent cases at a performance sharing meeting. This year’s performance sharing meeting will be held on the 27th in Hwaseong City, hosted by the Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Institute.

Yeoju City’s Welfare Center for the Disabled was selected as an excellent case among seven cities and counties in the borderline intellectual disability category with its program ‘Speech Up for Emotional Intelligence Improvement.’ In the disability category, the Butimok Disabled Night School achieved the honor of being selected as an excellent case amid fierce competition among 16 cities and counties through its ‘Animal-Assisted Education Activity Specialist Level 2 Certification Course.’

Yeoju City has strengthened its community network by operating various programs such as support for screening test fees and emotional and cognitive education to improve the emotions and social skills of borderline intellectual individuals. Since 2023, Butimok Disabled Night School has been running the animal-assisted education activity specialist course, with four people with developmental disabilities having obtained certification so far. Additionally, through volunteer activities at abandoned dog shelters, it has greatly contributed to improving disability awareness while simultaneously supporting volunteer work and independence.

A Yeoju City official stated, “The lifelong education support projects for borderline intellectual individuals and persons with disabilities are an important foundation for them to fulfill their roles as members of society through learning and to create a community where everyone lives together. We will continue to strengthen support going forward.”
