Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) signed a “Senior Job Elevator Safety Support Project Business Agreement” on the 18th with Busan Polytechnic University Dongbusan Campus (Dean Lee Chang-yeol), Korea Elevator Safety Agency Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters (Head Jang Hyun-sook), and Busan Gijang Senior Club (Director Park Soon-gyu) to create a safe elevator usage environment and generate jobs for the elderly.
Eleven people, including Gijang-gun Governor Jeong Jong-bok and representatives and officials from the four partner organizations, attended the signing ceremony. Each organization agreed to closely cooperate to ▲prevent elevator safety accidents ▲expand stable jobs for the elderly ▲train elevator specialists.
Through this agreement, the county will promote the Senior Job Elevator Safety Support Project, currently underway with the Busan Gijang Senior Club, a dedicated organization for senior jobs, in a more stable and systematic manner.
Additionally, Korea Polytechnic University Dongbusan Campus plans to open senior job courses to nurture talent, and the Korea Elevator Safety Agency will play a role in the job platform by preventing safety accidents and providing public data, cooperating to establish this project as a model senior job initiative.
Governor Jeong Jong-bok of Gijang-gun said, “With this agreement, we expect to enhance smooth communication and cooperation among institutions, further improve the level of elevator safety management in the local community, and lead to the creation of sustainable, high-quality jobs for the elderly.”
The Busan Gijang Senior Club, the dedicated senior job organization in Gijang-gun, has been conducting the Senior Job Elevator Safety Support Project since this year. Currently, 50 seniors participate, focusing on preventing accidents by conducting daily inspections and providing safe elevator usage guidance for escalators and elevators at Donghae Nambu Line stations (including Gijang Station and four others), as well as elevators in commercial and apartment facilities and pedestrian overpasses.
They also check for illegal operation of about 50 elevators that are prohibited from operation, greatly contributing to increasing the satisfaction and pride of participating seniors as members of the local community.
