Gwangju City is helping citizens improve their oral health through an artificial intelligence (AI) solution.

Gwangju City announced on the 18th that it has set up an "AI Remote Oral Examination Room Based on Oral Big Data" on the first floor of City Hall, which anyone including citizens and visitors who need oral examinations can use for free. The service will operate from the 19th until January next year.

This pilot project was promoted in cooperation with iCLO Co., Ltd., an AI healthcare company that signed a business agreement with Gwangju City in May to foster the AI ecosystem.

The examination procedure involves visiting the remote oral examination room to take oral photos, which are then analyzed by AI and sent to a dental specialist. The dental specialist remotely makes the final diagnosis regarding the presence of oral diseases. The diagnosis results are sent to the customer, allowing convenient oral health management without visiting a dental clinic. Two dental hygienists are stationed on-site to provide necessary explanations.

As of 2022, the national health examination participation rate was 75.4%, but the oral examination participation rate was only 26.4%. Gwangju City expects this AI remote oral examination pilot to greatly contribute to improving citizens' oral health.

We hope AI technology will bring practical changes to the field of oral health, and we will continue to expand future-oriented services that allow citizens to manage their health more easily and quickly.”
