Yeoju-si Leads Efforts to Close Care Gaps with Emergency Childcare Services for Elementary Students

The Gyeonggi-do Children Anytime Care Yeoju Center (Director Kim Hyeryeon) has been implementing the 360° Gyeonggi-do Children Anytime Care Service for elementary school facility-type emergency care since July 1st. This project is a new initiative promoted by 14 out of the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do, with Yeoju City taking the lead in participation and operation.

The facility-type emergency care service is a program that supports caregivers who suddenly need to leave their children by allowing them to entrust their children to safe institutions such as Dahamkke Care Centers or local children’s centers. This aims to eliminate care gaps.

Yeoju City’s emergency care service targets children aged 6 to 12 and can be applied for with a simple phone call after filling out a pre-registration application form. The operating hours are from 7 a.m. to midnight, and care is provided at service institutions near the child’s residence.

Currently, Yeoju City has six service-providing institutions including a hub center and 20 caregivers. The hub center handles emergency care child applications, connects the applicants to the appropriate institutions, and matches them with caregivers.

A single parent who used the service said, “I was very worried when my children were left alone at home because I came home late due to working late, but thanks to the emergency care, I can now entrust my children with peace of mind,” and added, “I am very satisfied with the service and plan to continue using it.”

Since the project started, Yeoju City has provided a total of 51 services so far, showing a high satisfaction rate with a reuse rate of 55.5%. Moving forward, Yeoju City plans to continuously support dense and systematic care services to eliminate blind spots in after-school elementary care.
