NIS and Space Agency Hold Meeting on 'Satellite Utilization'... Presentation of New Technologies

The National Intelligence Service and the Space Agency will jointly hold a large-scale conference to discuss 'satellite utilization.'


The National Intelligence Service announced on the 18th that from the 19th for two days, they will co-host a satellite utilization conference under the theme 'Future Prospects and New Opportunities of Satellite Utilization' at the KB Injaenium Sacheon Training Center in Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam.

On the first day, Kevin Murphy, Director of the Space Science Data Division at NASA, and Kim Jin-hee, Head of the Satellite Division at the Space Agency, will deliver keynote speeches. Sessions will include domestic and international companies such as Planet Labs and Hancom Inspace, security and public utilization sessions, and satellite utilization industry sessions. Additionally, a business agreement will be signed between the domestic satellite imaging company SIIS and the Indian space company Pixxel.


On the second day, company sessions featuring Airbus, ICEYE, LIG Nex1, Hanwha Systems, and SIA will be held alongside presentations on new satellite utilization technologies. Furthermore, during the event, domestic and international satellite utilization companies will operate exhibition booths to engage with attendees, the National Intelligence Service said.

Yoon Oh-jun, the 3rd Deputy Director of the National Intelligence Service, stated, "The value of satellite information is increasing not only for traditional security but also to respond to new security threats. The National Intelligence Service, as a leading institution in South Korea's space security, will promote innovation and growth in the satellite utilization sector by strengthening cooperation with industry, academia, and research, while actively adopting excellent private technologies and resources."


Yoon Young-bin, Director of the Space Agency, said, "We will spare no effort to support domestic companies in securing sustainable innovative growth and competitiveness. We plan to expand cooperation with the international community, including NASA and the Luxembourg Space Agency, to strengthen satellite information-based prediction and response capabilities for global issues such as climate crisis disasters and calamities."
