Hollywood actress Rachel Zegler (23) apologized after facing backlash for posting a critical message about Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States.

On the 15th (local time), according to American entertainment media Variety and Deadline, Zegler posted on her social media on the 6th, after Trump's presidential victory was confirmed, saying, "I expect another four years of hate." She stated, "There is a deep, deep sickness in this country that can be seen in the many people who appeared for this man (Trump) who threatens democracy," adding, "I hope Trump supporters, those who voted for Trump, and Trump himself never know peace." She also added a curse word containing the letter 'F' directed at Trump.

This sparked fierce criticism from Trump supporters. Megyn Kelly, a conservative journalist who has worked with Fox News and NBC News, said on her radio show, "This woman (Zegler) is a pig," and argued, "Disney should fire her and reshoot the movie. There is something wrong with this person. She needs to leave immediately." Eventually, on the 14th, Zegler posted, "I sincerely apologize for the election-related post I shared last week," and said, "I am sorry for fueling negative discourse in the heat of emotion." Disney did not issue a separate statement regarding the controversy.

Previously, conservatives had opposed Zegler's casting as the lead in Disney's 2021 film 'Snow White.' They argued that her appearance did not fit the role of Snow White, who is described in the original fairy tale as having snow-white skin. Zegler is a Latina actress with a Colombian mother and has somewhat darker skin.

Meanwhile, Zegler debuted by winning the role of 'Maria' in the remake musical film 'West Side Story' directed by Steven Spielberg in 2018, based on her outstanding singing ability during the audition. At the time, Spielberg said, "After seeing Zegler, I thought of no one else but her," and she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for this film. She later starred in leading roles in films such as 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' and 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.'
