'2024 Energy Awards' Held... LS Electric Executive Director Lee Sang-jun Receives Silver Tower Industrial Medal

SK O&S Recognized as an Outstanding Company for Achieving Eco-Friendly Vehicle Purchase Targets

On the 18th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the '2024 Korea Energy Awards' ceremony at The Plaza Hotel Seoul and announced that it awarded commendations to individuals from various sectors who contributed to improving energy efficiency and developing the renewable energy industry.

Marking its 46th anniversary, this event presented a total of 125 awards, including those for contributions to energy efficiency improvement, renewable energy industry development, efforts to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gases, and achievements in meeting eco-friendly vehicle purchase targets.

The highest honor of the ceremony, the Silver Tower Industrial Medal, was awarded to Lee Sang-jun, Executive Director of LS Electric, who contributed to energy efficiency improvement and advancement of domestic technology by developing and distributing world-class high-efficiency inverters. The Bronze Tower Industrial Medal was awarded to Han Seung-wook, CEO of DS Danseok, who secured Korea’s first biodiesel production technology based on waste cooking oil, contributing to the activation of renewable energy use from waste resources such as bio-heavy oil.

The Stone Tower Industrial Medal was awarded to Park Jin-gyu, Head of Safety Technology at Korea District Heating Corporation, for his contributions to stabilizing the power grid and promoting eco-friendly district heating through timely completion of the Dongtan combined heat and power plant and implementation of Hanran-type plant automation.

At the event, five companies that achieved excellent results by fulfilling the eco-friendly vehicle purchase targets for two consecutive years were selected and awarded certificates of commendation. Introduced in 2022, the eco-friendly vehicle purchase target system requires private companies such as large corporations, car rental businesses, and transportation operators to purchase or lease a certain percentage (6?22%) of new vehicles as eco-friendly vehicles (electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, hybrid vehicles).

This year, SK O&NS was recognized as the representative awardee for establishing its own eco-friendly vehicle transition plan and converting about 200 internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles. In addition, SK Networks Service, Hanjin, Seonjin Bus, and Daegu Taxi Cooperative also shared the honor of receiving awards.
