Mapo-gu Establishes Honorary Road 'Kim Dae-jung-gil' Embracing Donggyo-dong Residence

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is accelerating proactive and swift administrative efforts to preserve the late President Kim Dae-jung's Donggyo-dong residence.

After submitting an application on November 12 to the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Cultural Heritage Preservation Division to register the late President Kim Dae-jung's Donggyo-dong residence as a National Registered Cultural Heritage, Mapo-gu is now creating an honorary road named "Kim Dae-jung-gil."

Mapo-gu plans to name the road near the Donggyo-dong residence as the honorary road "Kim Dae-jung-gil," establishing it as a space to widely promote and remember the achievements of the late President Kim Dae-jung, a symbolic figure of democracy and the first Korean Nobel laureate.

The section of the honorary road "Kim Dae-jung-gil" extends from 1, Sinchon-ro 6-gil, adjacent to the Donggyo-dong residence and Kim Dae-jung Library, to 31-2, Sinchon-ro 2-an-gil.

The pavement along the "Kim Dae-jung-gil" section will feature a highly visible base color with the phrase "Kim Dae-jung-gil" written on it, allowing anyone to easily find and recognize the road.

Additionally, five road nameplates and five information boards will be installed throughout the section, displaying the locations of the residence and library, as well as explanations of President Kim Dae-jung's achievements in both Korean and English. Through this, pedestrians will naturally walk the path honoring President Kim Dae-jung, who led peace and harmony.

The naming ceremony celebrating the birth of the honorary road "Kim Dae-jung-gil" is scheduled to be held on November 20 at the Kim Dae-jung Peace Park.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, "We are creating 'Kim Dae-jung-gil' nearby so that the Donggyo-dong residence can serve as both a cultural heritage site and a memorial hall," adding, "We will continue to seek management and development plans to ensure that the Donggyo-dong residence, Kim Dae-jung Library, and 'Kim Dae-jung-gil' all become spaces symbolizing the values of democracy, human rights, and peace."
