First Celebrity to Verify Signature Participation on Instagram
Responds to Malicious Comments: "I Dislike Gloomy and Stupid Men"
Actress Kim Sujeong (20), known as the "Answer Girl," has been revealed to have participated in the petition opposing the transition of Dongduk Women's University to a coeducational system. This is the first time a celebrity has done so.
On the 15th, Kim Sujeong posted a photo on her Instagram certifying her participation in the online petition against Dongduk Women's University's transition to coeducation. Along with the petition link, she wrote, "There are so many people in the world I just don't understand."
Kim Sujeong debuted in the entertainment industry as a commercial model in 2007 at the age of 4 and became known as the "Answer Girl" who shouted "That's correct" on KBS2's "Star Golden Bell" in 2010. She later graduated from Seoul Performing Arts High School and enrolled in Dongduk Women's University's Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment but is reported to have dropped out.
After news of Kim Sujeong's participation in the petition spread, some netizens criticized her and left malicious comments on her Instagram. Her YouTube channel also saw a mix of support and criticism, with several times the usual number of comments posted.
In response, Kim Sujeong captured a sexually harassing comment directed at her posted on an online community and replied, "I want to remain a woman’s university graduate, but seeing you like this, I bet you really want to attend a coed engineering school. I really hate men who are as gloomy and narrow-minded as you."
She continued to post content seemingly supporting Dongduk Women's University students, introducing songs like girl group TripleS's "Girls Never Die." "Girls Never Die" is a song expressing the will and courage of women fighting against adversity.
Earlier, Dongduk Women's University students opposed the school's discussion of transitioning to coeducation by occupying the main building and other facilities and starting a sit-in protest.
In response, the school announced on the 15th that damages amounting to up to 5.4 billion KRW had occurred, including claims for compensation from the employment fair organizer canceled due to student intrusion and property damage, as well as building repairs and cleaning expenses.
The student council held a press conference that day, stating, "It is disappointing that the school is intimidating students without addressing the fundamental issues," and continued protests at the main gate, demanding the "complete withdrawal of coeducation discussions" and "consultations regarding male international and undergraduate students."
Meanwhile, names of Dongduk Women's University alumni such as model Han Hyejin, actress Kim Ahjoong, and singer Gummy surfaced, with voices calling to "protect the alma mater." Apart from Kim Sujeong, no other celebrities have publicly expressed their stance on this request so far.
