300 Cases of Illegal Filming and Photos of Women Discovered

A man who was illegally filming in a women's restroom at a restaurant was caught on the spot.

On the 16th, Okcheon Police Station announced that they had booked a man in his 20s, identified as A, without detention on charges of filming using a camera under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act. A is suspected of secretly filming women in the women's restroom of a restaurant in Okcheon-gun, Chungbuk, on the 6th.

At the time, the victim sensed suspicious noises and caught the man at the scene, revealing A's crime. The victim told YTN, "I was cautious about closing the door (in the stall next to me). I felt something strange there, and while I was urinating, I felt very uneasy, so I looked up and saw a cellphone filming me." She added, "There were several folders on the man's cellphone, and one folder had about 300 videos. Many of them showed women sitting in the restroom, standing up, and wiping themselves with toilet paper."

According to the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the restaurant reported by YTN, the victim is seen grabbing the man's clothes and pulling him out. She then informed people nearby and reported to the police. The woman sat the man down on one side of the restaurant and took his cellphone to check it. The man stood up from the chair and knelt before the woman.

It was revealed that the man followed the woman into the restroom after confirming she had entered and then attempted the crime. The victim requested personal protection from the police and is known to have asked for an investigation to determine whether the illegally filmed videos had been distributed.

During the police investigation, A stated that he filmed the women's restroom out of curiosity. The police are conducting digital forensics to check if there are additional victims.
