'Legendary Nuclear Fist' 58-Year-Old Tyson Loses by Decision to 27-Year-Old Boxer

Lethargic Game Progression
Some Spectators Booing

Boxing legend Mike Tyson (58), who stepped into the ring for the first time in 19 years since leaving it in 2005, lost by decision against Jake Paul (27).

On the 16th (Korean time), Tyson was defeated by decision 0-3 (72-80, 73-79, 73-79) in a professional heavyweight boxing match held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, USA.

Tyson was famous for his 'power punch' during his prime, but at nearly 60 years old, he could not escape the effects of time. The organizers arranged the match to be 8 rounds instead of the usual 12, and each round lasted 2 minutes instead of 3, to accommodate Tyson's age. Although this was intended to create an exciting fight, the actual match fell short of expectations. Tyson threw several sharp punches immediately after the bell in the first round, but from the third round onward, he showed almost no movement.

Paul also approached the match with a passive attitude. Just before the final bell of the 8th round, Paul extended both gloved arms forward and bowed his head toward Tyson. This was a gesture of respect toward Tyson, but major foreign media reported that "fans booed at the scene where Paul paid tribute to Tyson, as they had hoped for a more thrilling moment."

Paul said, "Tyson has always been on my side. It was an honor to fight with him, and I love him," while Tyson responded to the crowd's boos by saying, "I am not someone who pleases the world. I am satisfied that I did what I could."

The match was exclusively broadcast by Netflix, the world's largest online video streaming service (OTT), and Tyson ($20 million) and Paul ($40 million) attracted attention with astronomical appearance fees.
