Jennie recently mentioned Cold Plunge, which involves immersing the body in cold water for a certain period, on the YouTube channel of the famous magazine Vogue. She said, “I started it to relieve the fatigue accumulated from repeated tours and performances.” It is known to be effective for mood refreshment, immune system enhancement, and body fat reduction.

She said, “I didn’t know how to cope with sleeping in pain and having stiff muscles (but through Cold Plunge) I learned how to accept tension,” adding, “It’s good for relieving fatigue accumulated from repeated tours and performances. I did Cold Plunge every night after finishing my daily schedule.” Cold Plunge also appears in the lyrics of Jennie’s new song ‘Mantra,’ released last month.

In the YouTube video, Jennie actually demonstrated Cold Plunge by immersing herself in a bathtub. The key is to warm up first, then slowly immerse your feet in the water while maintaining your breathing. After steadying her breath and fully immersing her body in the cold water, Jennie said, “At first, you’ll feel a tingling sensation when your body enters the water, but you have to trust yourself,” adding, “I usually set an alarm for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds, but even when the alarm goes off, I extend the time by about 5 to 10 seconds, thinking ‘Let’s see how much more I can do today.’”

She shared her thoughts, saying, “It instantly improves your mood and promotes blood circulation,” and “I feel energized and ready to do something.” She also added, “Every time I do it, I feel scared, but overcoming this fear and pushing myself became a kind of motivation,” and “I came to believe that I am stronger than I thought. It gave me the strength to overcome difficulties in personal or creative work.”

Those who actually enjoy Cold Plunge claim that simply immersing in cold water improves mood and is effective for strengthening the immune system and losing weight. Hailey Bieber, wife of American singer Justin Bieber, has also mentioned it, and recently soccer player Son Heung-min introduced cold water immersion as a health management method.

However, the American Heart Association (AHA) warned about the risks of Cold Plunge in 2022, saying, “You're not a polar bear.” Sudden immersion in cold water can sharply increase breathing and heart rate, causing ‘shock.’ People with a history of heart disease should be especially cautious.
