Busan City will hold the "2024 Busan Peace and Unification Expo" with the slogan "Catch(job) Health(go) to Unification(on)" from 1:30 PM on the 16th at the City Hall Grand Conference Room and the first-floor lobby area.
This year marks the inaugural year of July 14 as the "Day of North Korean Defectors." The event will focus on employment, health, and other themes to support the stable settlement of North Korean defectors. It will be a meaningful event where citizens can participate together to improve awareness of North Korean defectors and share a consensus on unification, making the event more substantial.
The event is diversely composed of ▲ "North Korean Defectors Corporate Promotion Hall," ▲ "Employment and Start-up Consulting Hall," ▲ "Medical Booths" including Busan National University Hospital, ▲ Mobile Medical Bus, ▲ Promotional and Exhibition Booths related to Unification Policy and North Korean Human Rights, ▲ Screening of short films about North Korean defectors, and ▲ Experience event booths.
At the "Corporate Promotion Hall" and "Employment and Start-up Consulting Hall" for North Korean defectors, employment guidance by company will be provided, along with advice and consultations from related organizations such as the Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office’s Employment Welfare Plus Center, which is responsible for protecting the employment of North Korean defectors.
In particular, at the "Medical Booths" and "Mobile Medical Bus," North Korean defectors, who are vulnerable to disease management, can receive hospital check-ups and health management information through this expo.
At the promotional and exhibition booths related to unification policy and North Korean human rights, ▲ the National Unification Advisory Council, the Committee for the Five Northern Provinces, and the Busan Hana Center will promote unification policies, ▲ the Ministry of Unification’s North Korean Human Rights Report card news will be exhibited, and ▲ short films related to the settlement of North Korean defectors provided by the North Korean Defectors Settlement Support Office will be shown to citizens. After the film screening, there will be an on-site talk session between North Korean defectors and citizens.
At the experience event booths, various programs such as ▲ unification dalgona (sugar candy), ▲ Korean Peninsula keyrings, and ▲ wish tree making will be operated, allowing children to easily engage with unification culture.
Kim Bong-cheol, Director of the City Administration and Autonomy Bureau, said, “Through this 'Busan Peace and Unification Expo,' we hope it will be an opportunity for North Korean defectors, who are the 'unification' that has arrived first, to settle stably in Busan and a place where citizens can empathize together.” He added, “We ask for the interest and participation of North Korean defectors and citizens.”
