Jeollanam-do selected 'Giteumjeong Ssanghwaju' by Hwasun-based Yelang Hyerang Co., Ltd. as the representative traditional liquor of the province in November.

Jeonnam Province evaluated that 'Giteumjeong Ssanghwaju' is produced with honesty and sincerity throughout all processes, from raw material cultivation to traditional liquor manufacturing. This liquor was first launched in September 2023 and is the first local specialty liquor of Hwasun County. Despite being a healthy medicinal liquor containing herbal medicine, it features a subtle aroma that is not overpowering, has a smooth throat feel with little burden relative to its alcohol content, and offers a soft taste.

Giteumjeong Ssanghwaju is made after more than two years of waiting. Nine main ingredients of Ssanghwa tea, including jujube, licorice, and cinnamon, are prepared according to their characteristics, steamed and dried nine times, then placed inside yuzu and aged for over a year. This is then brewed again with organically grown rice cultivated directly and aged for another year to create a 15-degree healthy medicinal liquor.

Yelang Hyerang is an agricultural corporation that has expanded its business from agricultural production and distribution to traditional liquor manufacturing. The organic rice used in Giteumjeong Ssanghwaju is also cultivated directly, and the herbal medicines are sourced reliably from the Hwasun area where the brewery is located. They are developing traditional liquor based on premium ingredients, honesty, and sincerity.

Park Ho, Director of the Agricultural Food Distribution Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “Specialty products are made using excellent rice and local specialties produced in the region. This can contribute to increasing farm income by adding high value to Jeonnam agricultural products.” He added, “We will continue to actively support the revitalization of the traditional liquor industry through the development and commercialization of various products.”
