On the 15th, Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, emphasized this during the 2024 second half regular meeting of the Korea Special City Mayors' Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council) held at Changwon International Shooting Range.

At the meeting, Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City (Auditor and Co-Chair), along with Lee Jaejun, Mayor of Suwon Special City (Representative Chair), Lee Donghwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin Special City (Co-Chair), and Jeong Myeonggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong (Associate Member), attended to discuss joint agenda items of the special cities.

The Council emphasized close cooperation with the National Assembly to enact the "Special Act on Support for Special Cities" proposed by the government and suggested actively making recommendations to the Administrative Safety Committee.

Furthermore, it is important to secure authorities not reflected in the government-proposed bill in accordance with the timing of the law's enactment. To this end, they agreed on the need to revise the enforcement ordinances of individual laws related to tasks transferred and approved by the Local Autonomy Committee and the Local Era Committee, such as participation in the Central Port Policy Deliberation Council and raising the review standards for financial investment projects, and to urge the relevant ministries to improve government guidelines corresponding to institutional improvements.

Mayor Hong said, "The process of persuading central government ministries and the National Assembly will not be easy, but everyone must unite their efforts to ensure the special law is enacted promptly."
