The "Public Sector Drone Piloting Competition" was hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by the TS Transportation Safety Authority. It was held on the 13th to promote the revitalization of the domestic drone industry by verifying the educational achievements of drones in the public sector and increasing the use of drones in public services.
The Environment and Surveillance category, in which Gwangju City participated, involves using drones to inspect mountainous terrain, monitor forest fires, and detect pests and diseases. The competition comprehensively evaluates drone piloting skills based on flight stability, inspection accuracy, measurement precision, and mission completion time, focusing on environmental investigation and surveillance capabilities.
From Gwangju City, digital information officers Lee Soo-yeon, Son Byung-oh, and Oh Gu-hwan from the Intelligent Information Team competed, demonstrating excellent drone piloting skills and mission execution abilities, earning the third-place "Encouragement Award" nationwide. Prior to this, the city won the Grand Prize (1st place) at the "2024 Gyeonggi-do Drone Piloting Competition" in September.
Notably, this competition included local governments as well as national and public institutions nationwide, further proving the drone utilization capabilities of the participants.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan stated, "I hope that based on outstanding drone utilization skills, the application and scope of use in administrative tasks will be actively expanded," adding, "I look forward to discovering convergent and integrated ideas in the administrative field based on drone operation experience to provide improved administrative services for citizens."
