JWL Team Wins Grand Prize for Assistive Device Ideas for Low Vision
Samwuilche Team Awarded Best Research for Vehicle Sudden Acceleration Human Error
Students from the Department of Human Factors Engineering at Dong-Eui University won the Grand Prize and the Excellence Award at the ‘2024 4th National University Student Social Venture Competition’.
The competition was held as a side event of the ‘2024 Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Expo’ at BEXCO, Busan, from November 6 to 8. It was hosted by the Social Economy University Council to discover creative ideas for solving local community problems and to expand the foundation for social enterprise startups.
Dong-Eui University’s JWL team from the Department of Human Factors Engineering (3rd-year students Gwak Minju, Heo Kyungwook, Jeon Junhyung, and Oh Seungbin) won the Grand Prize and the Chairman’s Award of the Korea Technology Finance Corporation with their assistive device idea equipped with sunglasses that block light reflection and AI functions that distinguish dangerous obstacles, ensuring safe mobility for visually impaired people who have difficulty walking.
Additionally, the Trinity team from the Department of Human Factors Engineering (4th-year students Shin Junyeop, Kim Mingwan, and Jeong Jeyong) received the Excellence Award for their research on human error analysis and improvement in sudden unintended acceleration of vehicles, proposing an idea to install pedal operation status and brake and accelerator intervention indicators on the vehicle dashboard.
At this competition, which involved undergraduate and graduate students from universities participating in the Social Economy University Council, Dong-Eui University’s JWL team won the Grand Prize, along with 11 teams receiving the Excellence Award and 7 teams receiving the Merit Award.
Lee Imgeon, head of Dong-Eui University’s LINC3.0 Project Group, said, “We are pleased that the efforts and achievements of students participating in various industry-academia-research collaborations were recognized at this Social Venture Competition. The LINC3.0 Project Group will continue to support nurturing social venture startup talents who can lead the strengthening of students’ entrepreneurial capabilities and contribute to value creation for the region.”
