"Shocking Election of Criminal Convicted for Hate"
"Sympathy for Americans Left in a Dystopia"
Hollywood actress Eva Longoria (49), known for her role in the popular American drama "Desperate Housewives," expressed disappointment with the U.S. presidential election results and announced her decision to live abroad.
On the 14th (local time), in an interview published online by the fashion magazine Marie Claire, Longoria commented on the election results, saying, "What is shocking is not that Trump won, but that a convicted criminal who spewed so much hatred can hold the highest office in this country." As a Latino American, she is a long-time supporter of the Democratic Party. Ahead of this election, she actively campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Longoria said, "I want to believe that the fight continues even after the election," but added, "If he (Trump) fulfills his promises, America will become a frightening place." Currently residing between Spain and Mexico with her husband and 6-year-old son, she said, "I have the privilege to escape America, but most Americans are not so lucky," and added, "They will be trapped in this dystopian country, and thinking about them makes me feel worry and sadness."
Recalling, "When Trump first won the 2016 election, I experienced depression for the first time in my life," she confessed, "I questioned whether my vote really mattered and if I was truly making a difference." She emphasized, "I have long warned Democratic leadership that Latino voters in America are increasingly vulnerable to conservative appeals due to economic issues," and stressed, "I have shouted that the Democratic Party should never take Latino support for granted. They must win their votes every election."
Ferrera and Sharon Stone Also Mention Possibility of Relocation
Like Longoria, many stars have expressed frustration over Trump’s victory and their intention to leave the U.S. America Ferrera, an Emmy-winning actress, announced on her social media after Trump’s victory confirmation, "I am packing my bags," and said she plans to start a new life in the UK with her family. Sharon Stone also resonated with Ferrera’s post, writing, "It’s time to leave America," and said she is considering relocating to Italy.
The recent U.S. presidential election also set a new record on the world’s largest search engine, Google. As the victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump became clear, online searches related to "immigration to Canada" surged by an astonishing 5000% starting on election night. Searches about moving to Canada were especially high in Vermont, Oregon, and Washington?states with strong support for Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris. During the 2016 election when Trump won, Canadian immigration websites temporarily crashed due to overwhelming traffic.
