The joint crackdown involved the Gapyeong-gun Traffic Division, Gapyeong Police Station, Korea Transportation Safety Authority Northern Gyeonggi Headquarters, and the Northern Gyeonggi Police Agency Highway Patrol Unit. The enforcement team was composed of one unit with a total of seven members.

The crackdown was carried out at locations with heavy traffic, including the Gapyeong Rest Area on the Seoul-Yangyang Expressway (Seorak-myeon), the Gapyeong Rail Bike parking lot, and the Gapyeong Station annex parking lot (Gapyeong-eup). The main targets of the crackdown were modifications to lighting devices, violations of license plate standards, illegal tuning of structures or devices that do not meet safety standards, installation of leaf springs on freight vehicles, the operational status of speed limiters, and whether vehicles had undergone mandatory inspections.

In particular, vehicle safety inspectors from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority focused on checking compliance with safety standards. As a result of the joint crackdown, approximately 210 vehicles were inspected, and 32 violations were found in 22 vehicles. The violations included △ 2 cases of illegal tuning △ 10 cases of defective license plates △ 16 cases of safety standard violations such as damaged reverse lights △ 4 cases of failure to undergo vehicle inspection. Accordingly, the violating vehicles will be either repaired or transferred to other agencies depending on their registration location.

Tak Hye-gyeong, head of the Traffic Division, stated, “The structure and devices of vehicles are very important for safe driving,” and urged, “Drivers must comply with safety standards and obtain prior approval from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority if tuning is necessary.”

Meanwhile, inquiries related to illegally tuned vehicles can be made to the Gapyeong-gun Traffic Division. Gapyeong-gun plans to continue conducting surprise crackdowns on illegal tuning activities in the future.
