Uijeongbu-si, Pilot Operation of Priority Parking Sharing System for Residents in Old Downtown Areas

To Alleviate Parking Shortages

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 15th that it will start a three-month pilot project from the 14th to share resident-priority parking lots through the ‘Modu-ui Juchajang’ (Everyone's Parking Lot) service to alleviate severe parking shortages in the old downtown area and to efficiently utilize and manage idle parking spaces.

Modu-ui Juchajang is a service that shares designated resident-priority parking spaces that are vacant through the application ‘Modu-ui Juchajang’. Allocators (sharers) register the times when the parking spaces are vacant on the app, and users can prepay through the app to use the available parking spaces.

The basic usage fee is 300 KRW per 30 minutes, and it can be extended in 30-minute increments. Sharers receive mileage points equivalent to 50% of the parking fee (up to 30,000 KRW per month), which can be exchanged for cultural gift certificates. Additionally, bonus points are awarded, providing benefits when allocating resident-priority parking zones next time.

The city operates a total of 2,465 resident-priority parking spaces (2,325 general spaces and 140 exclusive spaces). Among these, 227 spaces will be operated as a pilot project: 54 spaces in the area under Mangwolsayeok Station, a densely populated residential and mixed residential-commercial area, and 173 spaces in the Yeonnaecheon section.

Jeon Seon-nyeo, head of the Parking Management Division, said, “This will help alleviate the chronic parking shortage in the densely populated old downtown area. After the pilot operation is completed, we will identify issues and improve the system to be more efficient, and then expand the operation to the entire area in the future.”
