Since the announcement of the registration system operation on September 3, the Office of Education selected three institutions after ▲document submission and review (October) ▲on-site investigation (October to November) ▲registration operation committee meeting (November), considering the safety of the teaching and learning environment and the appropriateness of curriculum operation.
Registered alternative education institutions are allowed to use the name "school," and compulsory education subjects enrolled in alternative education institutions can be granted a "deferment of compulsory schooling."
Additionally, they can receive budget support such as ▲program operation expenses ▲book purchase expenses, and must comply with legal obligations including ▲notification of personal information to the original school ▲adherence to tuition refund standards ▲publication of budget and settlement details on the website ▲formation and operation of an alternative education institution operation committee.
The list of the second round of registered alternative education institutions selected by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education in 2024 can be found in the notices section on the Office of Education’s website.
The Office of Education has operated the alternative education institution registration system six times since 2022, and a total of 76 alternative education institutions have been registered to date.
The Office plans to support the internal development of alternative education institutions by providing ▲support for educational activities at alternative education institutions ▲training to strengthen staff capabilities ▲support for the AI-based customized teaching and learning platform "Hi-Learning" service ▲activation of regional networks.
Um Shin-ok, Director of the Education Welfare Division at the Office of Education, said, “We will strive to ensure that out-of-school youth can realize their dreams by developing their talents and aptitudes while being guaranteed a safe right to learn at registered alternative education institutions.”
