Lumpy Skin Disease Detected at Dairy Farm in Asan Following Outbreak in Dangjin Yonhap News

Lumpy skin disease has been detected at a dairy farm in Asan, following a previous case in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province.

According to South Chungcheong Province authorities on the 15th, skin nodules and other symptoms were found in cattle at a dairy farm in Asan. The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency conducted a detailed test the previous day, confirming a positive result.

This comes 21 days after the first case was reported at a Hanwoo farm in Dangjin on the 24th of last month.

Quarantine authorities have restricted access to the farm and decided to cull the cattle confirmed positive.

Clinical examinations have been conducted and cleaning and disinfection measures have been strengthened at 130 cattle farms within a 5km radius of the affected farm, as well as at 196 cattle farms with epidemiological links to the outbreak.

A temporary movement ban has been issued until 8 p.m. today for nearby areas including Asan, Cheonan, Gongju, Yesan, Dangjin, and Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi Province.

Lee Deokmin, director of the Provincial Agriculture, Livestock and Food Bureau, stressed, "Cattle farms should re-examine their vaccination status and thoroughly carry out vector control and farm disinfection."
