HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has embarked on a full-scale effort to secure the Canadian submarine project.

On the 14th (local time), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries participated in the 'Deep Blue Forum' held in Ottawa, Canada, under the theme of 'Local Support Preparation for New Submarines for Canada,' proposing a total solution for the Canadian submarine acquisition project.

Canada is currently pursuing the 'Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP),' which involves acquiring up to 12 submarines of 3,000 tons class, with contract signing expected between 2026 and 2027.

The Deep Blue Forum is an academic forum jointly hosted by the Royal Canadian Navy and Vanguard Canada, a leading Canadian defense and security media outlet, where in-depth discussions were held on the most suitable submarine technologies and features for the Canadian Navy.

At this forum, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries introduced a total solution for the CPSP, including a Canada-customized model (model name: KSS-III CA) based on the design of the Dosan Ahn Changho-class (3,000 tons class) submarines of the Republic of Korea Navy, modified to include lithium-ion batteries.

Additionally, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries discussed cooperation plans focusing on local ship maintenance and repair with Canadian defense companies such as Babcock Canada.

Prior to this event, in September, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries officially expressed its intention to participate in the bidding for the project by submitting a response to the 'Request for Information' for CPSP received from the Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).

Terri Pavelic, editor-in-chief of Vanguard Canada, co-host of the Deep Blue Forum, stated, "Since CPSP is a large-scale project, a partner capable of stable long-term execution is needed. We believe HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is a very suitable company for these Canadian requirements and expect support from the Korean government for successful project execution."

Joo Won-ho, head of the Special Ship Business at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, said, "HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is best positioned to successfully carry out the Canadian submarine project based on extensive experience and construction capabilities in delivering numerous domestic and international vessels on time. We will work closely with the government and related industries to contribute to the continuous growth of Korea’s defense industry and national interests."
