President Yoon Suk-yeol arrived in Lima, the capital of Peru, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is being held, on the 14th (local time).
On the morning of the 15th, President Yoon will deliver a speech as the chair country of APEC next year during the first session of the APEC Summit. Afterwards, he is scheduled to attend the 'Dialogue with the APEC Business Advisory Council' and the 'CEO Summit.'
On the 16th, he will participate in the 'Retreat' event where APEC leaders foster camaraderie and begin his official visit schedule in Peru, including a summit meeting with President Dina Boluarte. This marks the first time since his inauguration that President Yoon is visiting a Latin American country and holding individual bilateral meetings.
President Yoon and President Boluarte will also hold a separate defense industry commemorative event to jointly sign a nameplate to be attached to ships being built by Korean companies at a Peruvian shipyard.
In particular, with Peru, a key ally in Latin America, multiple cooperation MOUs are expected to be signed focusing on sectors such as defense, critical minerals, tourism, and information and communication technology (ICT).
After completing the 3-night, 4-day APEC Summit schedule in Lima, President Yoon will move to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit will be held on the 17th.
