Four local governments?Buk-gu and Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju, and Damyang-gun and Jangseong-gun in Jeonnam?came together to explore cooperative measures for the mutually beneficial development of the northern Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.
According to Buk-gu, Gwangju, the 8th regular meeting of the "Gwangju-Jeonnam Northern Region Win-Win Development Council" was held at the Gwangsan District Office the previous day.
At the regular meeting, in attendance were Moon In, Buk-gu Mayor and Council Chairman, Park Byung-gyu, Gwangsan-gu Mayor, Kim Han-jong, Jangseong-gun County Governor, and Jeong Gwang-seon, Deputy Governor of Damyang, engaging in in-depth discussions on directions for sustainable win-win development.
The main agenda items included ▲ the creation of the Gwangju-Damyang Local Garden ▲ activation of the Hometown Love Donation System ▲ expansion and paving construction of National Road No. 24 (Jangseong Jinwon to Damyang Daejeon).
In particular, the creation of the Gwangju-Damyang Local Garden was proposed as a collaborative effort between the two local governments to revitalize a large-scale natural ecological area of 280,000㎡ stretching from Wolsanbo in Buk-gu to Yeongsan Bridge in Damyang-gun. If realized, this would be the nation’s first cooperative local garden between local governments and serve as a model for ecological tourism resource development that transcends regional boundaries.
Moon In, Buk-gu Mayor, stated, “This meeting involved not only institutional cooperation but also practical discussions directly related to residents’ lives, such as local gardens and improvements to transportation and safety infrastructure. We will continue to discover cooperative models that can achieve sustainable regional development through this council.”
Meanwhile, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Northern Region Win-Win Development Council is an administrative council formed in 2019 by Buk-gu and Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju and Damyang-gun and Jangseong-gun in Jeonnam to promote regional win-win development through cooperation and exchange in various fields. It has successfully discussed and jointly responded to major issues such as the Jangseong KTX access, the second relocation of public institutions to local areas, and the development project of the Advanced 3 District.
