Application of Reused Batteries in E-Mobility
Full-Scale Promotion of Ecosystem Revitalization Project
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam Province has filed a groundbreaking report on the 11th of this month for the "Reused Battery Applied E-Mobility Industry Ecosystem Activation Project" and will begin full-scale construction of the "Reused Battery Industrialization Center" at 5B-5L, Gasan General Industrial Complex, Dong-myeon.
This project is being carried out by Gyeongnam Technopark with support from Gyeongnam Province, Yangsan City, and Busan City. Yangsan City is bearing 16.1 billion KRW including land costs, with a total project budget of 29.8 billion KRW, including 9.3 billion KRW in national funds, 2.6 billion KRW in provincial funds, and 1.8 billion KRW from Busan City. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2025.
The "Reused Battery Applied E-Mobility Industry Ecosystem Activation Project" began with an application for a new task under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Smart Specialization Infrastructure Construction in 2021, was finally selected through a public contest in 2023, and completed basic and detailed designs in September of this year.
The construction will involve building a new facility with a total area of 1,606.78㎡ on a site of 3,953.2㎡, consisting of a two-story research building and a one-story testing building.
The "Reused Battery Industrialization Center" is expected to establish itself as a core element of the Yeongnam region's E-mobility industry by performing performance evaluation and storage of reused batteries and serving as a key collection center for batteries.
The Reused Battery Industrialization Center plans to lead the market for reused battery application products by providing local automotive parts companies with opportunities to secure reused battery application technologies and enhance development capabilities. Through this, it is expected to contribute to the nurturing and expansion of companies related to future vehicles such as electric and hydrogen cars.
A Yangsan City official stated, "Through the establishment of the Reused Battery Industrialization Center, Yangsan will create an opportunity to take the lead in the E-mobility market."
