"Corporate Activity Autonomy Must Be Guaranteed"
Direct and Indirect Employment in Korea 1,750 People
Huawei Korea stated that fair opportunities should be provided to both domestic and foreign companies for the continuous development of Korea's information and communication technology (ICT) industry. In particular, they emphasized the need to eliminate discrimination in bidding, supply, and licensing, and to create a fair competitive environment.
On the 15th, Huawei Korea announced that it had published an ICT white paper in collaboration with the Korean Institute of Electronics and Communications Sciences (KIECS). The white paper addresses Huawei's added value in the Korean market and strategies for the development of the Korean ICT industry, presenting a growth roadmap.
The white paper includes the assertion that opening the ICT market and industry is essential for continuous growth. It stated that instead of domestic companies developing all technologies independently, they should open their doors and collaborate with overseas companies to develop advanced technologies.
It also mentioned the need to increase opportunities for domestic companies to expand overseas and support corporate growth. As an example, it cited the European Union (EU), which opened the telecommunications market among member countries and established a single market. This was praised for promoting the overseas expansion of European companies and strengthening competition within the European market.
It also recommended providing fair opportunities to both domestic and foreign companies and eliminating discrimination in bidding, supply, and licensing.
Huawei Korea identified the following as measures for ICT industry development: ▲ joint research and development with overseas companies ▲ joint ventures with overseas companies ▲ deregulation of market entry ▲ equal opportunities for domestic and foreign companies ▲ strengthening support for overseas companies.
They also advised that the government should not impose or restrict specific technology development methods but should guarantee the autonomy of corporate activities.
They pointed out that Apple collaborates with various companies in Korea, China, and elsewhere in iPhone device manufacturing, and although Samsung has been a competitor for over 20 years, they have maintained a close cooperative relationship.
Meanwhile, Huawei Korea stated that it contributes to the domestic economy through approximately 250 direct employees and about 1,500 indirect employees in Korea. They reported that they spend 50 billion KRW annually on these direct and indirect employment costs and pay an average of 13.4 billion KRW in taxes to the Korean government each year.
